He has served as accompanist at other Lutheran churches in this area and beyond, as well as Catholic, Christian Scientist, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, and UCC (Congregational) churches, and estimates that he's played for about 800 weddings and 400 memorial services. He's a member of the American Guild of Organists and American MENSA. His education is wide-ranging, from Penn State, Pierce College, UC Riverside, UCLA, and CSUN. In addition to his musical pursuits, Guy spent close to 50 years working with Atomics International, Rockwell International, and Boeing. He is married with three adult children and grandchildren. Guy has played the piano in a variety of settings, including the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Crystal Cathedral, and Carnegie Hall. He has also sung with groups on the Queen Mary, at the Hollywood Bowl, and Carnegie Hall, as well as solo roles in opera performances of The Mikado and Amahl and the Night Visitors. In high school in Massachusetts, Guy played piano and organ, clarinet in marching and concert band, violoncello in orchestra, and was president of the glee club. He also played with a Dixieland band called the "Hungry Five Times Two Minus One," and sang in Chapel Choir at Penn State. He's currently playing some acoustic guitar and harmonica. Mount Cross is very blessed to have the talented Guy Ervin as part of our music ministry! |
