2) Between now and October 1st, finalize all printed materials, revise neighborhood lists and routes.

3)  Week of October 2 – get team together to assemble packets and fill baskets (or backpacks).

4)  October 2 & 9 – Stewardship Temple Talks by members of the congregation

5)  October 9 – Baskets (backpacks) are sent on their way from each service.

6)  In each basket (backpacks), in addition to the usual stewardship materials (cover letter, Time & Talent, pledge card, offering envelopes, new church directory) there will be a sticker and a card.  Both would look something like this:

Everyone will have instructions to think about a verse that has meant a lot to them as they have sought to journey in faith through life.  They are to write the verse on the card and the sticker.  The card is given to the next neighbor on the route; the sticker brought to church and pasted on the 12’ x 7’ open Bible on the wall where the vineyard was last year:

[The writers of some of these might be asked to expand on why the verse they chose was so meaningful to them and turn it into an Advent devotional booklet…]

6. With Journey to the Center of the Soul  as our ongoing theme, there is a Communion song that we could employ.  It is called “Give us bread for the journey.”

Give us bread for the journey, give us bread.

Give us bread for the journey, give us bread.

When our legs are getting heavy,

and we’re hanging down our heads,

give us bread for the journey, give us bread.

Guide our way as we travel, guide our way.

Guide our way as we travel, guide our way.

With so many roads before us,

where to go is hard to say.

Guide our way as we travel, guide our way.

Make us one with each other, make us one.

Make us one with each other, make us one.

All the walls we’ve built around us:

may we learn to tear them down.

Make us one with each other, make us one.

Lead us home to the garden, lead us home.

                Lead us home to the garden, lead us home;

where we’ll live with all creation,

find our place and never roam.

Lead us home to the garden, lead us home.

Give us bread for the journey, give us bread.

Give us bread for the journey, give is bread.

When our legs are getting heavy,

and we’re hanging down our heads,

give us bread for the journey, give us bread.
