Service In Our Country
Jesus told us that we would be his witnesses “in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" Acts 1:8. We take his words as inspiration to reach out with care and compassion to others in our country.
One example is our partnership with Peace Lutheran Church in Slidell, Louisiana. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Peace Lutheran serves as a center for those coming to assist with the recovery – which will probably last at least ten years! We have sent money and people to help them build their Mission Center as well as work in the areas hit by Katrina.
Our most effective work throughout the country is done as part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Our Mission Support extends our care to places where it is needed most.
Special opportunities to serve will be announced in the newsletter. And you can look for ideas in the Stewardship Resource Guide. A few of the items described there (listed on the Time & Talent Report) are ways we serve across the country.
