Minutes of 12/6/2011 Meeting

 

Present: Bob Boyer, Nora Fajnor, Pastor Erik Goehner, Bill Stoll, and Gordon Henry

Absent: Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough, Tracy Blois and Melissa Henry (After opening Erik moved to the Executive Meeting)

Our Mission:

Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.

 

1.      Opened with a prayer from Erik.  Minutes from 11/1/2011 were approved.  Gordon will submit minutes to Marilyn to be posted on the web.

2.      Fair Trade Coffee Sale12/6 results $814.50 the best ever.  Will need more chocolate before next sale on January 8th

3.      Summer of Soul Care – Shoe Recycling – Pat picked up and delivered the boxes of shoes to Soles 4 Souls.  Gordon will post pictures and write up on kiosk.

4.      Blood Drives for 2012 – Bill Stoll reserved three dates for blood drives February 26th June 17th and October 21st.  Will check church calendar and add.    

5.      Alt Christmas – LWR Fair and Gifts of Hope – The craft sale did very well on first two Sundays - we ordered more for the final Sunday which also had a great response with not too much to return – final numbers by January meeting if it’s ready.  Gifts of Hope also stellar start with over $5,500 so far – will keep poster in office until Christmas and may have a final number in January.

6.      Habitat for Humanity – Site in Oxnard will have the cement slabs poured soon and we can set up a volunteer work day to start the buildings then.

7.      LSS Collection – Bob delivered a load of donations recently and is keeping an eye on the bin.  Mary has been getting articles to the newsletters.

8.      LSS/Project Understanding “Home to Stay Ventura CountyLynn’s presentation around the county had an impact. The Thrivent Financial Chapter sent a $1200 check to help get them started.  Further discussions at council may help start our involvement.

9.      Many Meals Mount Cross will host 2 meals this month Dec 8th and 29th.  Bob stated they have been running smoothly and averaging over 100 meals served per night.

10.  Hickory House Dec 14th – Mary emailed that she had collected donations enough to cover gift cards (35 residents) and refreshments – she has helpers lined up also.

11.  Assemble homeless kits at the Dec 18th Children’s program – Melissa and Tracy will set up and supervise the table at the Pizza dinner. 

12.  Mount Cross Shirt sales – Sunday of the Annual meeting – Gordon proposed setting up a table on Sunday Jan 29th at service and at the meal and meeting – approved by those present.

13.  Souper Bowl of Caring Feb 5thThis national fundraiser program will be done to support St Columba’s food bank and will be supported by a matching grant from Thrivent. 

14.  CROP Hunger Walk – March 11th - Set for old town – more details soon. 

15.  Church Budget update – Cash flow issues discussed and some other issues of members directing contributions to “not leave the church” may be clouding the budget process.

16.  Thanks – Gordon thanked all for the great year and many accomplishments of the team.

17.  Hunger Postcards – Discussed having available at coffee sales and the annual meeting
