Present: Bob Boyer, Pat Gallagher, Mary
Goodenough, Pastor Erik Goehner, Gordon and Melissa Henry
Absent: Mike Laskey, Nora Fajnor
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from
Gordon. Minutes from 12/6/2010 were
approved. Melissa will submit minutes to
Marilyn.
2. Fair Trade Coffee
Sale – 1/9 $449
Melissa has new Time and Talent Report with new volunteers, which she will be
calling for help in February.
3. Time and Talent Report – It’s here for 2011. Melissa has a copy and can get the info for
anyone else who needs it. And we welcome
to our committee Tracy Blois! She works
out of town so will not be attending meetings, but will join our email list and
participate when we need her. Chuck
Carty has also volunteered to lead the Relay for Life team.
4. Alternative
Christmas – Malaria Initiative – 11/7, 11/14, 12/5 ~ $1500 from Malaria Initiative, but checks
are continuing to come in. Hopefully,
LWR will get back to us that our returns have been credited, and that will be
finished. Since both projects are in the
same account, we will wait to issue a check on MI until other is balanced –
then everything left in the account goes to MI.
5. Hickory House – Christmas Party on 12/15 - Went well, 33 residents, 10 helpers. Provided $10 gift cards to $.99 Store. Mary did most of the shopping after
collecting sponsors. Rita Carolan helped with shopping and prepping gifts, Barbara
D’Addario played the piano. Thanks from
the committee to the helpers. It was
very lovely.
6. Holiday Skedaddle – No report.
7. Meals at Trinity
Presbyterian – under Many Meals of Camarillo – next meal is 1/13.
Erik believes MBC check has been given.
MM will receive an $800 Thrivent 2010 grant to help with costs. Totals for 2010: 415 meals served, 220
helpers. Awesome! Need to continue to talk it up, as volunteers
are tapering. Discussed ways to keep it
spotlighted at church. Perhaps host
hospitality on a Sunday morning, and have a display table with info – have
people who have volunteered wear their aprons or a name badge. Melissa will contact Erin about ideas, and
get her thoughts.
8. Update Web Information – Melissa wrote up new info and
shared it with the group for evaluation.
Asked about online signups for activities.
9. New City Parish – Erik will bring it to council, and
invite someone to come and speak on a Sunday morning, to begin the dialogue.
10.
Budget for 2011 – Old news: Based on
response to Stewardship drive, which was strong, Gordon submitted a budget of
$1500 for 2011.
11.
Annual Report Writeup – Melissa and Gordon
submitted a report. Generic on what we
have accomplished this year. Erik
suggested printing Log of Service – Melissa will edit and get it to Marilyn.
12.
Habitat for Humanity Workday – Jan. 22 – Gordon will advertise. Will most likely be working in Piru. TO house will
be dedicated Jan 16.
13. Souper Bowl of Caring – Feb. 6 – Already in newsletter. And we’re registered on the website. Requested a Thrivent Grant – which has been
approved. Need help day of with youth –
ask Gail Weed or Linda Tendler?
14. Blood Drive – Feb 13
Kevin will handle advertising and signups. Sign should go up on Feb 6th.
15. CROP Walk – Mar. 13
Gordon believes it might be our year to host. We don’t want to do so, so he will check and
get back to us. Perhaps St. Mary’s with
the bigger parking lot would be willing.
16. Homeless Kits – Thrivent grant – Granted
$300. Spent $299.53. Had kits at the Sunday School Christmas
Program. Very well received, but we have
enough material to do again. Mary and
Melissa will set up on Feb. 13 (Love your neighbor!) – Melissa will include it
in the bulletin and Friday email before the event.
17. Gleaning Crew – No response from
congregation. Print again in April
newsletter and late March emails.
18. Movie Night – “Dirt: The Movie” is
available on NetFlix, so could be shown.
19. Recycle Display: perhaps tied to Earth day? April 17th? Call EJ Harrison for a
display/representative. Jeans/Denim
drive, info on e-waste and household hazardous wastes.
20. CPR/First Aid
Training – No new
news. Old news: Had an idea to offer this to Mt. Cross members. CDC needs to do in January, and has a
contact. Perhaps we can join together
with them. Melissa will check into costs
and how many could participate. New
news: We’ve decided to let this drop, as
we have too many things to handle right now.
Write up Camarillo Health Care District in the newsletter as a “Spirit
at Work” and maybe come back to it another time.
21. LSS Barrel – will continue as now. Mary will write up a new report for
newsletter. And look at new names from
Time and Talent Report to perhaps get new helpers.
22. Tijuana House build – We are a go! One house still makes a difference. Pat will check with mission on dates and costs. New volunteers from T&T.
23. Haiti Project – Erik brought up possible Haiti
project from Ascension. LWR building a
center in Haiti – to support education and rebuilding.
24.
Next meeting will be held on
Feb 7, 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross
25.
Closed with a prayer by Erik.

Minutes of 12/6/2010 Committee Meeting
Present:
Bob Boyer, Nora Fajnor, Pat Gallagher, Gordon and Melissa Henry
Absent:
Mike Laskey, Mary
Goodenough, Pastor Erik Goehner
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 11/1/2010 were approved. Melissa will submit minutes to Marilyn.
2. Fair Trade Coffee Sale - 11/7
$339 Thank you, Mary and Gordon,
12.5 $385 Thank you, Gordon and Bob.
Moved the January sale to the 9th.
3. Alternative Christmas – Malaria Initiative –
11/7, 11/14, 12/5 Ascension provided cards and info, which was
a big help. Thanks to Karen and Dan
Nelson for staffing the MI table, and Nora and Scott Fajnor, Gail Baird, and
Jan Gerk for help with the LWR sale. So far, the MI has raised $1135, but we will
set up the info in the office to gather any last donations. The LWR sale totaled out at $990.70 – and Melissa
has returned the products that can be.
All in all, a success. All money
from both projects are in the same account, so once LWR order has been settled,
we can issue the check from what remains.
And we did remember to take pictures!
4. Hickory House – Christmas Party on
12/15 - Mary handled two weeks of
signups (11/28 and 12/5) with gifts due to church on 12/12. Believe she has all clients sponsored. 34 clients will be served.
5. Holiday Skedaddle – gifts due to church
12/12. Kimberly couldn’t make the meeting. Names are from a church in Canoga Park. Believe she has about ½ the families
sponsored.
6. Meals at Trinity Presbyterian – under Many Meals of
Camarillo – next meal is 1/13.
Melissa and Gordon took photos before the clients arrived for the November
meal. Numbers served continue to
rise. They had to order in Presto Pasta
because they ran out of food at the December meal. And did Erik get the check to them from MBC
funds?
7. Update Web
Information – still pending.
Melissa will contact Jim Gucciardo about putting photos up. She will also write up new info and send it
out to the group for evaluation. Made
lists of activities that fit under the existing titles.
8.
LSS Barrel – will continue as now
9. New City Parish –
Old news: Erik introduced the idea of
building a connection with the parish.
Perhaps travel down for a day trip work/informational. Do a choir exchange. Have a speaker come and share their work with
our congregation. Well received by
committee, so he will bring us more info next meeting. New news: Erik missed this meeting, so no
news. However, we have a question. Has this been brought before council? We would love to see the church get behind it
like the Peace Project, but feel we need a push from more than just our committee.
10. Budget for 2011 – Based on response
to Stewardship drive, which was strong, Gordon submitted a budget of $1500 for
2011.
11. CPR/First Aid Training –
No new news. Old news: Had an idea to offer this to Mt. Cross members. CDC needs to do in January, and has a

is going to apply for a grant to build the homeless kits at the children’s
Christmas program – requesting $250.
Will probably have leftover product to use later.
14. Future plans:

to individual homes for fruit for Food Share – point person? Team?
Melissa will include a beginning request in the Jan. newsletter.
Veggie “stand”
on patio with donation jar to go to Food Share

with potluck dinner? “Dirt the Movie”
Recycle display
– informational! – maybe have Harrison come and visit? Restore?

Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 11/1/2010 Committee Meeting
Present:
Bob Boyer, Nora Fajnor, Pastor Erik Goehner, Mary Goodenough, Gordon and
Melissa Henry
Absent:
Mike Laskey, Pat
Gallagher
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 10/4/2010 were modified and
approved. Melissa will submit minutes to
Marilyn.
2. Relay for Life Review – Total raised is
now closer to $150k. Gordon will check
on our team totals and get something into the newsletter to thank the
congregation for their support.
3. Fair Trade Coffee Sale - 11/7 Mary and Gordon will host 11/7, Bob
(and Pat and Shari will check) will host 12/5.
Melissa and Nora will be busy with Alternative Christmas – but will be
there to help with setup and takedown.
4. Flu Shot Clinic – Oct. 17 –
Went successfully, though wet. Thank you
to Gail Baird and Bob and Joan Brundage for their work. Mary will contact Gail to find a total and
get something in the next newsletter.
Forgot to photo.
5. Blood Drive – October 31 – Very successful. 31 pints donated (another new high!). Also, results from June 27th are
26 pints. Thanks to Kevin for his work
helping this to be our best year ever.
Forgot to photo. Schedule for
next year as follows: 2/13, 6/5, 10/30.
6. Meals at Trinity Presbyterian – under Many Meals of
Camarillo – Meals served continues to rise- 92 on 10/14. Committee is checking on food
regulations. Also, may need extra
turkeys for the Thanksgiving meal.
7. Hickory House – Christmas Party on 12/15
- Mary will handle two weeks of signups
(11/28 and 12/5) with gifts due to church on 12/12. 34 clients will be served.
8. Alternative Christmas – Malaria Initiative –
11/7, 11/14, 12/5 No work from Ascension yet on the cards,
literature, and video. Karen Nelson has
video to provide for the service on Sunday to introduce the project (lwr.org/malaria). Erik purchased 5 adult books and 10
children’s books which can be partnered with gift cards as a gift to help
explain the project. Karen and Melissa
will set up a table on the patio (complete with nets). Erik will work on a trifold
board to help explain the project. Still
waiting on cards…. Melissa has blank card to donate, or suggested an insert
that we could create to be put inside of a traditional Christmas card.
The LWR Craft sale is
ready. Gordon, Nora and Melissa will set
up Saturday so tables can just be carried out on Sunday morning. Have artisan stories to display on the table
along with the crafts. Hung posters in
the hallway to invite CDC parents to come, as well as others who use our church
for meetings during the week. Melissa
also asked if she could share the craft sale with the CDC staff, which
committee approved for 11/15, so she will not break down the sale on 11/14,
just move tables back inside sanctuary.
We have extra help from
Jan Gerk on 11/14 and Gail Baird on 12/5. Perhaps call on some others to help. We need to remember to take pictures!
9. Health Kits – With the Thrivent Grant
and help from Vibs Clausen (for shopping), the youth assembled more than 70
kits that were sent with the quilts from Flinke
Handed to LWR headquarters on the truck on 10/17. Forgot to photo
10. Update Web
Information – still pending.
11.
LSS Barrel – will continue as now
12. Budget for 2011 – Request for our
2011 budget must be in by 11/25. In
2010, we asked for $1500 but have not used it all. Erik will check this week on how much we have
used. In 2009, we used ~$900 of a $1500
budget. Maybe we can request only
$1000.
13. Designated $ - Many Meals –
Erik shared that MBC put aside $500 for Many Meals. Didn’t distribute because
weren’t sure how program would work with all churches. But now, the overall Many Meals is purchasing
the paper goods for all meals (at about $60 a night). Committee approved sending a check to Many
Meals to help offset costs of the program.
14. CPR/First Aid Training – No new
news. Old news: Had an idea to offer this to Mt. Cross members. CDC needs to do in January, and has a
contact. Perhaps we can join together
with them. Melissa will check into costs
and how many could participate.
15.
Calendar for 1st quarter of 2011
Feb. 6 – Souper Bowl of Caring
16.
New City Parish – Erik introduced the idea of
building a connection with the parish. Perhaps
travel down for a day trip work/informational.
Do a choir exchange. Have a
speaker come and share their work with our congregation. Well received by committee, so he will bring
us more info next meeting.
17. Thrivent Grants –There might be other
money to be used by the end of the year – so try and brainstorm some
ideas. Many Meals paper goods? Community garden workday? Lunch for the workers?
18. Future plans:
Gleaning crews
to individual homes for fruit for Food Share – point person? Team?
Veggie “stand”
on patio with donation jar to go to Food Share
Take photos:
Blood Drive sign and setup, LSS office and supplies, Coffee sales
Movie night –
with potluck dinner?
19.
Next meeting will be held on

Present:
Bob Boyer, Nora Fajnor, Pat Gallagher, Pastor Erik Goehner, Mary Goodenough,
Gordon and Melissa Henry
Absent:
Mike Laskey
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 8/30/2010 were approved. Melissa will submit minutes to Marilyn.
2. Block Party/Rally Day Review –
Both days went well, we had about 45 kits made (at a cost of ~$72) and coffee
tasting (~$10 for cups, plus 2 bags of coffee and one tea box).
3. Relay for Life Review – Overall $100k
raised, 62 teams, 785 walkers. Mt. Cross
had 30 members sign in, and raised $1600 so far. Erik suggested a graph of where the money
goes printed in the newsletter or on the kiosk.
Perhaps next year we join with Emily Loomis, or use Brian Fisher as a
resource.
4. Fair Trade Coffee Sale – 9/5 $327 10/3 $399
Mary and Gordon will host 11/7, Bob (and Pat and Shari will check) will host
12/5. Melissa and Nora will be busy with
Alternative Christmas – but will be there to help with setup and takedown.
5. Meals at St. Mary’s – under Many Meals of Camarillo –
Meal served on 9/16 was a success.
Number have grown steadily each week – close to 100 last week. Next meals are 10/14, 11/11, 12/9. Discussed how to share responsibility amongst
all volunteers. Costs about $60-100 to
provide a meal for plates, etc…
6. Habitat for Humanity – Only location
available for 10/9 workday was Piru, so Gordon did
not advertise event. Erik would like to
take pastors to TO in November – Gordon will get him
the info. Will schedule a workday again
before the end of the year.
7. Flu Shot Clinic – Oct. 17 –

event. Have 48 signed up so far. Confirmed with Maxim and we are ready to

11/7, 11/14, 12/5 Melissa placed an order and it is in – from LWR. Will order more this week– and a kit for
advertising. Erik is attending a meeting
on Thursday to see what Ascension is planning this year. Last year we used all their literature and
the video. Karen Nelson has spoken with
LMI people who are willing to come to Mt. Cross. We will decide after meeting on
Thursday. She has a mosquito net for
props, and Melissa has 2. Perhaps call
in some extra help for the days of the sales:
Jan Gerk, Gail Baird, Karen Nelson?
10.
LSS Barrel – will continue as now
11.
Time and Talent – Gordon did not get to Marilyn in time, but will do
so to get the changes in for next year.
12. CPR/First Aid Training – Had an
idea to offer this to Mt. Cross members.
CDC needs to do in January, and has a contact. Perhaps we can join together with them. Melissa will check into costs and how many
could participate.
13. Thrivent Grants – Gordon reported
$600 grant going to St. Colomba’s Food Pantry, $600
to CATS, $600 to 7th Day Adventist, $400 to health kits. Erik will gather youth for health kit making
(truck will be here 10/19) Check with Vibs to see if she will do the
shopping. Gordon will gather some
volunteers to work the food pantries (and perhaps visit Food Share with them for
the purchase of the items) as reason behind
grant is to get Lutherans out volunteering in the community. There might be other money to be used by the
end of the year – so try and brainstorm some ideas. Many Meals paper goods? Community garden workday? Lunch for the workers?
14.

was a young family, with one infant, and they were very gracious and
thankful. Pat received a donation of
$100 from a friend to pay for the food, but he handed the money over to Daniel
at the mission. Committee signed a nice
thank you note to be sent to the friend.
5. Meals at St. Mary’s – under Many Meals of Camarillo –
Old news: Trinity Presbyterian has
volunteered their space for a Thursday night weekly meal. Plans are to begin
serving in July. Erik has taken the
matter to council and put out feelers for volunteers. June 17th is the volunteer
orientation at Trinity. Erik will
email the committee the list of potential volunteers. We may need to set up a table on the patio to
continue to spread the word and grow our volunteer list. Also, check with St. Mary’s to volunteer with
some of our volunteers, to get the “feel” before the training.
6. LSS Barrel – Mary spoke with them
today, and they are looking for $10 gas vouchers, bus tokens, large bottles of
shampoo, etc., and white socks. Perhaps
we will focus on the last two, and take a special offering over the summer to
raise money for the first two. Host
hospitality, do a bake sale. Melissa
will check with Fellowship to see if we can “take” a Sunday.
7. Habitat for Humanity - Thousand Oaks: Single family home. Wall raising was May 1st. Piru: Two single
family homes. Prepping the soil
continues this month. Oxnard:
Buildings are being prepped for removal.
Slow going due to city paperwork.
Gordon will advertise a work day for June 19th, most likely
for TO.
8. Make Bake
Celebrate: Was a success. Council meets May 4th, and they
will let us know about our requests for funding. Fair Trade Baskets were well received.
9.
Earth Day Celebration – April 17.
Went well. Small but well
organized for the first year in Camarillo.
Looking to grow in the future, so keep in mind for participation next
year.
10. Compassion International – Karen
and Dan Nelson were pleased with the results.
They had 4 signups, all on the Sunday when the video was shown.
11. Prayer Garden Update – May 15th
Ross and the youth will be working on the prayer path. There will be no “garden” due to scope of the
project, so that will follow. Committee
should prepare to help financially and physically with planting.
12. Souper Bowl of Caring – Thrivent authorized another
$100 for the food pantry. Gordon has
received the check and forwarded it on to the pantry, with a note from us.
13.
Upcoming Events:
Flu Shot Clinic
– Oct. 17th with Maxim
Relay for Life –
Oct. 2-3
ACTION Day –
Summer of Service – this has been changed, so we will keep looking at this
project. Perhaps pick a day next meeting
for a “service day” at the mobile home park.
Future
plan: Add to next month’s agenda: update
website info.
14.
Next meeting will be held on
June 7th, 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross.
15. Closed with a prayer
by Melissa.
Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 4/5/2010 Committee Meeting
Present:
Gordon and Melissa Henry, Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough, Nora Fajnor, and
Pastor Erik Goehner
Absent:
Mike Laskey, Bob Boyer
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 3/1/2010 meeting were passed
out. Will review and approve them next
month.
2. Fair Trade Coffee
Sale – Results from 3/7 – $ 383.50 4/4 - ~$310. Committee agreed it was worth doing on Easter
Sunday, even though it was a lot to do on one morning. Next is 5/2 – Melissa will call new
volunteers to help host.
3. Blood Drive – March 7th – new
record of 32 signups and 30 pints. We
think the sign is working! Thank you to
Pat for arranging it for us. Next one is
scheduled for June.
4. Bibles for Ethiopia –
old news: project has not been funded – yet.
We are going to raise up this project at our hospitality table on March
7th – tied to the proceeds from the coffee sale. Group decided to use the money from that to
purchase 300 Bibles (x$1.60=$480) and share that info with the congregation on
the patio that Sunday – and have the opportunity to have members donate to
raise more. New news: We will
continue with the sing and basket for the next Coffee Sale, but have not had
much of a response.
5. CROP Walk – March
14th It was a great day.
Mount Cross had 19 walkers, a refreshment stand (with iced water, which
was a hit), 2 crossing guards, and 2 sign in helpers. We raised $2,227 so far, and citywide we have
raised $16,400.
6. Meals at St. Mary’s – under Many Meals of Camarillo –
Old news: Trinity Lutheran has
volunteered their space for a weekly meal.
Erik has taken the matter to council and put out feelers for
volunteers. We should probably suggest
helping at the St.Mary’s site a few times in the next
few months. Erik will attend next
planning meeting. New news: Trinity has chosen Thursday night, hoping to
begin serving in July. Erik has 6-7
people who have approached him from our church.
There is some debate over the board supervision and working out the
email contacts, so Erik will keep us informed on procedure. Gordon will attend the next planning meeting
on April 6. June 17th is the
volunteer orientation at Trinity.
7. Tijuana Build – April 16-18 Old news: Pat has 7 people signed up,
but hopes for more. We will be staying
in El Divino (downtown TJ). Received receipt from the mission for our
check. One house and 1 night of
lodging. Pat will follow up on calling people
from the Time and Talent. New
news: Pat now has only 5 sign ups. We are going ahead. Shari will handle the food, and Pat will
schedule a short prep meeting in the next week.
Need to look into a different type project for next year.
8. LSS Barrel – This ministry
continues. We plan to focus the
donations.
9. Habitat for Humanity - Thousand Oaks: Single family home. Property wall is up, forms are built and the
foundation will be poured this week. Piru: Two single family homes. Building is destroyed but not removed from
property yet. That work continues this
month. Oxnard: Buildings are being
prepped for removal. This is the most
likely spot for us to work, as they are planning 6 duplexes, so lots of things
to be done. However, Gordon would like to plan a workday for late May – and it
might be in TO.
10. Make Bake
Celebrate: We requested
donations for TJ, Habitat for Humanity, New City Parish, and Many Meals. Decision has not been made for how to divide
the money, but council will handle that.
Melissa wrote the Fair Trade Baskets onto the list of auction
items. Nora will put together 2 of them,
and Melissa will handle the 3rd.
11.
Earth Day Celebration – April 17. We
have advertised the 1st annual Camarillo celebration of Earth Day in
the newsletter, as an “invitation from your Service and Missions
Committee”.
12.
Upcoming Events:
Flu Shot Clinic
– Oct. 17th with Maxim
Relay for Life –
Oct. 2-3
Compassion
International – April 18th (and 2 weeks after)
ACTION Day – that
committee has decided to make this the “Summer of Service” maybe we can join along with our summer
preaching theme and work projects.
13.
Next meeting will be held on
May 3rd, 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross. (Next: Jun 7th)
14. Closed with a prayer
by Erik.

Gordon and Melissa Henry, Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough, Nora Wall, and Pastor
Erik Goehner
Absent:
Mike Laskey, Bob Boyer

community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 2/1/2010 meeting were reviewed
and approved.
2. Fair Trade Coffee
Sale – Results from 2/7 – $ 302.50 Thank you, Pat and Shari. Next is 3/7 – Melissa will host. The following is 4/4 – which is also Easter
Sunday. Melissa will host with help of
committee.
3. Souper Bowl of Caring - Feb 7
report – Raised $452 with help from youth and Gail Weed. Gordon has check for Thrivent, will take and
get the match.
4. Blood Drive – March 7th – Sign
is here, thank you Pat! We will mount it
on the lawn tonight to leave up until after the drive. Kevin has 20 sign-ups so far, and is hoping
for 30.
5. Bibles for Ethiopia –
old news: project has not been funded – yet.
We are going to raise up this project at our hospitality table on March
7th – tied to the proceeds from the coffee sale. Group decided to use the money from that to
purchase 300 Bibles (x$1.60=$480) and share that info with the congregation on
the patio that Sunday – and have the opportunity to have members donate to
raise more. New news: Gordon will
make coffee and bring fruit. Nora and
Pat will bring treats. Melissa will work
on poster for BFE. Erik provided pieces
from Ethiopia care of his MIL.
6. CROP Walk – March
14th We have registration and crossing guards but still need
refreshment stand help. We have a low
walker count at this time, so are hoping for more support.
7. Meals at St. Mary’s – under Many Meals of Camarillo –
Trinity Lutheran has volunteered their space for a weekly meal. Erik has taken the matter to council and put
out feelers for volunteers. We should
probably suggest helping at the St.Mary’s site a few

people from the Time and Talent.
9. LSS Barrel – This ministry
continues. We plan to focus the
donations.
10. Habitat for Humanity - Thousand Oaks: Work is paused between jobs. New property in Oxnard, Piru,
and Thousand Oaks. Gordon will report
again next month.
11. Victory Garden or Native Plant Garden – This is now in the hands of
the Property Committee and Ross Crockett.
We will help where we are needed when the time comes.
12. Haiti Earthquake Response: To date, Mt Cross sent a check for $5,029 to
LWR.
13. Make Bake
Celebrate: We would like to ask
for help for TJ, Habitat for Humanity, New City Parish, Lutheran Camps, and
Many Meals. We discussed dropping
Lutheran Camps from our request since they get money from the endowment
fund. Also, perhaps we should prioritize
or divide any money donated equally among the causes. Erik will submit the requests.
14.
Upcoming Events:
Flu Shot Clinic
for Fall – Oct. 17th with Maxim
Relay for Life –
Date in Oct?
15. Chile Earthquake Response: Due to
the recent request for LWR donations for the last earthquake in Haiti, the
committee feels we should hold off at this time. Those wishing to donate have the contact information to send
their donations independently from the church.
16. Earth Day Celebration – April
17. We would like to advertise the 1st
annual Camarillo celebration of Earth Day in the newsletter. Melissa will contact Marilyn for information.
17. Next
meeting will be held on Apr 5th, 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross. (Next:
May 3rd/ Jun 7th)
18. Closed with a prayer
by Erik.
Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 2/1/2010 Committee Meeting
Present:
Gordon and Melissa Henry, Bob Boyer, Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough, Nora Wall,
and Pastor Erik Goehner
Absent:
Mike Laskey
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 1/11/2010 meeting were reviewed
and changes noted.
2. Fair Trade Coffee
Sale – Sale is 2/7 – Pat and Shari Gallagher to host. Next is 3/7 – Melissa is going to call new
names from the Time and Talent sheet to help and train. The following is 4/4 – which is also Easter
Sunday. Discussed if that would be a
conflict. Agreed it is an outreach of
our ministry, and if we have enough help to staff the table – go for it!
3. Souper Bowl of Caring - Feb 7 Youth
are on board, with Gail Weed serving as coordinator. Grant with Thrivent is pending, Gordon will
check. Gordon and Melissa will take the
load over to St. Columba’s the week after.
4. Blood Drive – March 7th – Pat
will check with printer re: lawn sign to serve as outreach. Kevin is ready to take signups online and on
the patio.
5. CROP Walk – March
14th Gordon attended the planning meeting last month. Starting location is City Hall. We will need two crossing guards and two
registration helpers. Signups will begin
on patio on Feb 21st.
6. Tijuana Build – April 23-25 Pat
has 6 people signed up, but hopes for more.
We will be staying in El Divino (downtown
TJ).
7. Habitat for Humanity - Thousand Oaks: The new land in TO is an empty lot, so plenty
needs to be done, but currently there is a bit of a pause in work. Rain has kept work at a standstill. The lot is on Hillcrest. Perhaps the next church volunteer day will be
in late March or early April.
8. Bibles for Ethiopia –
project has not been funded – yet.
We are going to raise up this project at our hospitality table on March
7th – tied to the proceeds from the coffee sale. Group decided to use the money from that to
purchase 300 Bibles (x$1.60=$480) and share that info with the congregation on
the patio that Sunday – and have the opportunity to have members donate to
raise more.
9 Meals at St. Mary’s – under Many Meals of Camarillo –
Erik and Melissa attended the planning meeting.
There are other congregations checking to see if they have the space
available, that we can “share” and host the meal only once per month. Erik will ask Saturday at the Council retreat
to see what the response is, and then perhaps write something in the newsletter
to start feeling out the congregation for support.
10. LSS Barrel – monthly requests –
Full again – which is great! Mary had a
new writeup for the newsletter.
11. Victory Garden or Native Plant Garden: Old news: Due to the gophers, a
vegetable garden might not work, but group discussed a native plant prayer
garden. Gordon will speak with Ross
Crockett about the idea. Would need a
gate across the front, and would block access to the playground, so have some
checking to do. New news: Ross Crockett has approval from property. Pat has helped other Eagle Scouts with their
projects, so will contact Ross. Gordon
will also contact to see what we can help with.
Perhaps accessing memorial funds to purchase bench, stone for walkways,
etc… and we can use other money to purchase plants.
12.
Upcoming Events:
Hosting Hospitality on March 7th
2010 Blood
Drives – one in June and Oct.
Flu Shot Clinic
for Fall – Maxim called us to schedule – 1st choice: Oct 17, 2nd
Oct. 24
Relay for Life –
Date in Oct?
13.

asked about fund requests. She will
email the committee to find out when they need to be in. We would like to ask for help for TJ, Habitat
for Humanity, New City Parish, Lutheran Camps, and Many Meals.
14.
Haiti Relief: Update from the
ELCA was read by Erik. He will ask
Marilyn to include it in the next worship folder.
15. Next meeting will be held on Mar 1st, 7:00 pm at Mt.
Cross. And then Apr 5th!
16. Closed with a prayer
by Erik.
Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 1/11/2010 Committee Meeting
Present:
Gordon and Melissa Henry, Bob Boyer, Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough, and Nora
Wall
Absent:
Pastor Erik Goehner, Mike Laskey
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer from Gordon. Minutes from 12/9/2009 meeting were reviewed
and changes noted.
2. Meals at St. Mary’s
– under Many Meals of Camarillo – Erik, Bob, Melissa, and
Gordon all helped serve the dinner this evening. They feel it is too big a project to handle
on our own – weekly – but we could try to host the dinner once a month. We would need a partner church as we do not
have the facilities to seat all the guests.
There will be a meeting on the 19th, which Erik and Melissa
will attend to see if we can form a partnership. It is a larger group than the RAIN dinners
were, but there might be more in the congregation willing to help than we know.
3. Gifts of Hope – Money raised from the
bake sale on Dec 13th, plus some additional checks that came in that
day, totaled $430.61. Gordon will
contact Bob (treasurer) to see that the check has been mailed to Ascension.
4. Hickory House Christmas Party – Dec. 16th: Mary reported it was quite a success. She put together gift bags with socks, candy,
the gift cards, and donated toothbrushes.
She will write a thank you for the newsletter.
5. Fair Trade Coffee
Sale: Sold $346.50 on Jan 10th, a week later than
usual. Melissa needs help with the Feb.
sale, since it is Superbowl Sunday and she has other
commitments. Nora, Mary, and Pat all
will check calendars. Note: Pat and Shari Gallagher will handle
this sale.
6. Tijuana Build – April 16-18 Planning meeting: Jan 27 at
7pm Pat will advertise for this meeting in the email and
bulletins. There was some debate over
the work dates as Marilyn has a different date on the church calendar. Will need to clear that up ASAP.
7. Habitat – Santa Paula Update: The houses are finished. They were blessed last Saturday and the
families will be moving in soon. Thousand Oaks: The new land in TO is an empty lot, so plenty
needs to be done, but currently there is a bit of a pause in work.
8. CROP Walk – March 14th
Gordon will attend the planning meeting later this month. Starting location is City Hall.
9 Souper Bowl of Caring - Feb 7 Melissa
will check with Erik on whether the youth will help. Gordon will submit a grant to Thrivent for
matching funds. Committee feels this is
an easy, worthwhile project, even if the youth don’t participate.
10. LSS Barrel – monthly requests –
Towels are a need.
New news: none.
12.
Upcoming Events:
2010 Blood
Drives – one in Feb., June, and Oct. – perhaps flyer to the neighborhood or a
vinyl sign for the lawn the week before (to draw in the neighbors)
Host Hospitality
one Sunday during the year– Melissa will bring signup calendar to the next
meeting. We could use it as a time to
introduce our committee to the congregation, perhaps bring in some new people,
or use it to focus on one item, such as the Bibles. Or just be social. Char is having a difficult time getting
hosts, and we feel it is something each committee could handle once a
year. Fellowship hosted many times
during the summer, and it was fun.
13.
Bibles for Ethiopia - Group thought this was something we could
spend a Sunday, perhaps do a bake sale, to raise funds. However, there was concern that the project may
have already been funded – so we defer to Erik to check that out and get back
to us.
18. Chair and Secretary Position Melissa volunteered to write up
minutes and get them to Marilyn.
19. Next meeting will be held on Feb 1st, 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross. And then Mar 1st!
20. Closed with a prayer
by Pat.
Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 12/7/2009 Committee Meeting
Present:
Gordon and Melissa Henry, Bob Boyer, Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough, and Pastor
Erik Goehner
Absent:
Nora Wall, Mike Laskey
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with reading of the Mission Statement by Gordon, and
a prayer from Pastor Erik. Minutes from
11/2/2009 meeting were reviewed and approved.
2. Time and Talent
update: Gordon updated our
info, and he will submit changes to Marilyn.
It’s too late for this year’s printed copies, but will be updated on the
web.
3. Fair Trade Coffee Sale: Sold $582 on Dec. 6th.
This was a record breaking day. Nora and
Bob volunteered to cover the Jan. 3rd sale. Melissa will try and remember to contact them
both via email to remind them. Placed a
large order because we had a 10% off coupon.
Still need to place a chocolate order before the next sale.
4. African Craft Fair – Nov 15 and 22: Well received by the congregation. We mailed back the product as directed, and
sent a total of $1486.50 in sales. Next
year will check into LWR Fair Trade Sale.
They are fairly traded and still support mission work, so Melissa feels
they would be a better fit. It would
take a little more work, but can also serve as a fundraiser, as LWR offers a
10% discount off the prices for organizations doing a Fair Trade Sale. They also have a wider variety of product,
stories from their workers, and a higher quality of product.
5. Alternative
Christmas/Gifts of Hope – Old
news: Nov 8th Kickoff concert at Ascension. Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers – they were
great last year. Gifts of Hope will be
available on our patio on Nov 15th and 22nd along with
African Craft Fair. Also, the Fellowship
Committee is holding a bake sale on Dec 13th with proceeds going to
Gifts of Hope, and materials will be available again that Sunday on the
patio. Erik will purchase a few of the
books that relate to the materials to have with the cards, as a gift
suggestion. He also suggested to the CDC
that they have their new CDs available on those Sundays as well, as the
proceeds go to the scholarship fund. New
news: Well received by the
congregation. To date $7,185 have been
raised, with the Dec. 13 Bake Sale and last opportunity to shop coming up.
6. Hickory House Christmas Party – Dec. 16th: Old
news: Mary will write up something for
the next newsletter, and will decide which store for the gift cards. 33 residents, and they would like the party
food to be sugar free for their diabetic residents. New news:
Mary has all residents sponsored.
The party will begin at 4:30, with food, some singing, and then gifts. She is still looking for help the night of
the party.
7. Flu Shot Clinic Report – We administered
96 flu shots and ~14 Pneumonia shots.
Discussed the option of next year sending flyers to the neighborhood as
an outreach. We’d like to see this
ministry (reaching out to our neighbors) grow.
Perhaps also with the Blood Drive.
8. Community Supported
Agriculture – and Worship at “The
Farm”: old News: Erik shared that PJ is preaching once a month at the farm
service, and shared a bit about the background of the farm. New news: none.
New news: none.
10. Habitat Work Day: Erik took
a group of pastors to work for a morning.
The dedication is Jan.9th.
They are working almost every day between now and Christmas to get the
homes finished by the end of the year.
Erik would like to do a slideshow of members working at the house,
Melissa will get him the photos.
11. LSS Barrel – monthly requests –
Old news: The barrel has been full twice
in 2 months, so we will keep up the campaign.
Mary will look into a new write up with a focus for November, perhaps
for food (pantry shelf meals like cup o noodles or easy mac).
New news: none.
12.
Spring Service Trip: Old news:
Discussed the TJ trip, and Erik will call for availability of a weekend in
April (16th and 17th 1st choice). Even without the youth, we still feel this is
a worthwhile project and we have support of the congregation. New news:
Pat will put a “save the Date” in the next newsletter, and schedule a
meeting for January with interested volunteers – being sure to include that
passports will be mandatory!
13.
Upcoming Events:
Feb 7th
– Souper Bowl of Caring – Erik with check with the
youth is they want to do this. Gordon
will submit matching fund request to Thrivent Care in Communities, because Erik
feels confident the youth will agree to do it.
CROP Walk –
March ? Gordon will check.
2010 Blood
Drives – one in Feb., June, and Oct. – perhaps flyer to the neighborhood or a
vinyl sign for the lawn the week before (to draw in the neighbors)
14.
Annual Report – Gordon will submit a report for SAM. If you have something that you want included,
make sure he knows about it before the 15th.
15.
Meals at St. Mary’s – Since the summer, St. Mary’s has been serving
a meal for the community every Monday evening.
They feed about 100 people. They
would like to see a second night every week, and have written all local
churches to see if they are interested in helping. There will be a meeting later in
January. We discussed meeting at St.
Mary’s before the Jan. meeting to see how it works, and then discuss the
possibility at our meeting. One of the
options is to prepare the meal once a month, hosted at another location.
16.
Malaria Initiative – Ted Turner Grant – LWR, the Methodist Church,
and the Boy Scouts have been challendged by Ted
Turner to try and eliminate malaria by purchasing mosquito bed nets. Perhaps we could support this project by
using it as our Lenten focus – with Ash Wed. coming up on Feb 17th
17. New City Parish – We used to
support this ministry much more than we do now.
Perhaps we could work at raising them up in the next year. Maybe a day trip of service, or the Spring
service trip to help include the youth.
Should we invite the choir to come and sing?
18. Chair and Secretary Position Melissa volunteered to write up
minutes and get them to Marilyn.
19. Next meeting will be held on Jan 11th, 7:00 pm at Mt.
Cross. If you want to meet at St. Mary’s
beforehand, please contact Erik. This
meeting is a week later than we usually meet!
20. Closed with a prayer
by Melissa.

Absent:
Nora Wall
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Opened with a prayer
from Pastor Erik. Minutes from 10/5/2009
meeting were reviewed and approved.
2. Time and Talent
update: Gordon updated our
info, and he will submit changes to Marilyn.
It’s too late for this year’s printed copies, but will be updated on the
web.
3. Fair Trade Coffee Sale: Sold $334 on Nov 1st.
Discussed raising the price to become a fundraiser – and decided to keep it as
it is for now. The idea is to get people
using the products, and LWR gets a portion from each bag sold already. Melissa can handle the Dec. sale, but needs
help in January. Mary and Bob volunteered
to cover the Jan. 3rd sale.
4. Community Supported
Agriculture – and Worship at “The
Farm”: Erik shared that PJ is
preaching once a month at the farm service, and shared a bit about the
background of the farm.
5. Victory Garden or Native Plant Garden:
Due to the gophers, a vegetable garden might not work, but group
discussed a native plant prayer garden.
Gordon will speak with Ross Crockett about the idea. Would need a gate across the front, and would
block access to the playground, so have some checking to do.
6. Habitat Work Day: Oct 24th
was a success, with 8 volunteers. Next
planned day is Nov 21st. As
they push to finish the Thrivent house in Santa Paula by the end of the year,
more opportunities will be available, including 12-5 on some Sunday
afternoons. Gordon has invited some
retirees and others to join during the week, and Erik is looking to take a
group of pastors out.
7. Blood Drive Oct. 11th: We had 28 people volunteer, and 26 units of
blood donated.
8. Relay for Life Results: Our team of 40+ walkers raised $2200. The event raised $165,000 citywide.
9. LSS Barrel – monthly requests –
The barrel has been full twice in 2 months, so we will keep up the
campaign. Mary will look into a new
write up with a focus for November, perhaps for food (pantry shelf meals like
cup o noodles or easy mac).
10. Hickory House Christmas Party – Dec. 16th: Mary will write up something for the next
newsletter, and will decide which store for the gift cards. 33 residents, and they would like the party
food to be sugar free for their diabetic residents.
11.
Alternative Christmas/Gifts of Hope – Nov 8th Kickoff
concert at Ascension. Albert McNeil
Jubilee Singers – they were great last year.
Gifts of Hope will be available on our patio on Nov 15th and
22nd along with African Craft Fair.
Also, the Fellowship Committee is holding a bake sale on Dec 13th
with proceeds going to Gifts of Hope, and materials will be available again
that Sunday on the patio. Erik will
purchase a few of the books that relate to the materials to have with the
cards, as a gift suggestion. He also
suggested to the CDC that they have their new CDs available on those Sundays as
well, as the proceeds go to the scholarship fund.
12.
Spring Service Trip: Discussed the TJ trip, and Erik will call for
availability of a weekend in April (16th and 17th 1st
choice). Even without the youth, we
still feel this is a worthwhile project and we have support of the
congregation.
13. Budget: Budget recommendations are due. Last year we cut to $1500, and on our behalf,
Erik is going to request the same amount this year. We also still have $1800 in a designated
account labeled TJ House Mission, and another $500 in House Mission. There was some discussion, as we felt we had
spent that money, so Erik will double check.
14.
Looking ahead: Gordon brought
up the CROP walk, sometime in March. He
will check on date.
15. Chair and Secretary Position Melissa volunteered to write up
minutes and get them to Marilyn.
16. Next meeting will be held on Dec. 7th, 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross. The following meeting is scheduled for Jan.
11th, at 7:00 pm at Mt. Cross.
Note: this is a week later than usual!
17. Closed with a prayer
by Melissa.
Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 10/5/2009 Committee Meeting
Present:
Gordon Henry, Bob Boyer, Nora Wall, Pat Gallagher, Mary Goodenough
Absent:
Pastor Erik Goehner, Melissa Henry and Mike Laskey
Our Mission: Goals of
the committee focus on three areas: fostering the spirit of volunteerism among
Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with tangible aid to the least
fortunate in our local community and in the global community; encouraging
responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Minutes from 6/8/2009 meeting were
reviewed and approved. Question on Blood
drive results for June 7th still pending.
2. Reviewed the existing Time and Talent sheets for the Service and
Missions “jobs” and “job descriptions” asked the committee for input to be sent
to Gordon to compile and forward to church office for updating.
3. Fair Trade Coffee
Sale: Sold $312 in July, $154 in August, $177 in September and $310 in
October. Melissa sent her thanks to all
who helped with this ministry. An issue
with properly accounting for the Equal Exchange Coffee funds was discovered and
is being addressed with the church bookkeeper.
4. Community Supported
Agriculture – The Henry’s and Wall/Fajnor’s have
been sharing and enjoying the weekly box of local produce. The CSA has grown from about 10 when we
started to over 35 now. None from our
committee had attended the service or meal at the “Farm” – we hope Pastor Eric
can update us.
5. Victory Garden on back lawn at church was discussed. Gordon talked to Ross Crockett – he is
interested in checking if it would meet his Scout requirement. The plots of land to be used for Camarillo’s
community garden were discussed.
6. Habitat Work Day: Gordon
will organize church group to work at the Santa Paula site on October 24th
and a day in mid November...
7. LSS Barrel – monthly requests will be
working with Thousand Oaks office to find their most urgent needs and keep
congregation updated.
8. Blood Drive October 11th –
We are expecting a large turnout Kevin had to request more time slots.
9. Relay for Life. The Mt Cross team had over 40 member and
friends involved with setting up the luminaries, walking and financially
supporting the effort. As of Oct 30th
the walk had raised over $165,000!
10. Rally Day Table Discussion – We thought we had a good presentation
but did not get a lot of interest from the congregation will work to fine tune
in future.
11. Hickory House – Mary will check with them and thinks that it will
be some time between December 12-16. Mary will update at next meeting.
12.
Alternative Christmas – briefly discussed – after meeting Pastor
Eric and Gordon discussed the sale of African Crafts and set dates of November
15th and 22nd.
13. Food Can Drive – discussed around
Thanksgiving meal ideas. No date set – Gordon to follow up with Saint
Columba’s.
14. Spring Service Trip - discussed but need Pastor Eric’s input on
finances and what is happening with the youth.
15. Next
meeting is November 2nd. The
meeting was closed with a prayer by Gordon.
Mount Cross Lutheran Church Service and Missions Committee
Minutes of 6/8/2009 Committee Meeting
Present:
Gordon and Melissa Henry, Mike Laskey, Bob Boyer, Nora Wall, Pat Gallagher,
Mary Goodenough
Absent:
Pastor Erik Goehner (on sabbatical), Bob Cole
Our Mission:
Goals of the committee focus on three areas: fostering the
spirit of volunteerism among Mount Cross members and friends; reaching out with
tangible aid to the least fortunate in our local community and in the global
community; encouraging responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
1. Minutes from 4/6/2009 meeting were reviewed and
approved. One change – add the name to
#7 – Dan Nelson.
2. Fair Trade Coffee Sale: Sold $343 on June 7th. Thank you Shari Gallagher. Old
news: Melissa will look into designing a label to stick on the bags with church
contact info, such as St. Mary’s has on their bags. Nora is available to sell July 5th. Mary agreed to sell Aug. 2nd. Both those will be only between the 2
services for summer schedule. Rally day
is Sept. 13th and we will push the coffee sale back a week to miss
the holiday and coordinate with Rally Day.
Melissa may need someone to cover that day also, but the committee might
find it could be a group effort with the Rally Day table.
3. Community Supported Agriculture – Sharing of the box has gone well,
and many people are beginning to be interested, just from those of us who have
shared. We plan to display the boxes on
Rally Day, but hold off until later in September to present on the patio. Please, if you have had the box, be thinking
of ways to present this to the congregation.
4. Habitat
Work Day: Gordon will call Tracie
and Luanne and see if they want to have a “youth day” over the summer in Santa
Paula. Otherwise, nothing is
scheduled. They are working every
Saturday in Santa Paula and would love to have more Lutherans showing up.
5. LSS Barrel – monthly requests –
Old news: Mary will write up something to
be included in the newsletter on a monthly basis, and Bob B volunteered to take
things over to the office. They are
looking for basic hygiene supplies for the showers they run, including new
socks and underwear for the clients. New
news: Mary will get something in the newsletter, and Bob will be keeping an eye
on the barrel over the summer to empty it if need be.
6. Compassion International Sunday – April 26th
–Results: Karen and Dan Nelson had three
sponsors join during their three weeks of presentation on the patio. Someone from the committee needs to speak
with them to get their feelings, and see if they want to present again next
year.
7. World Fair Trade Day – May 10th –
The
chocolates were a hit, but people were asking why the coffee wasn’t set up to
sell. We did break the world record for
largest fair trade coffee break.
8. ACTION Day – June 6-7 Taking it to the Streets –
Old news: With no volunteer coordinator, we can still
advertise the event, just have people go to the website and signup to do an
event with another group. No one from Mount Cross participated, but they
did have 1200 volunteers and 40 churches in the county participate.
9. Blood Drive June 7th – results were
unknown.
10. Gardens - Old
News: Victory Vegetable Garden (behind sanctuary?)– or native plants in the
parking lot – both ideas were brought up as part of being responsible stewards
of God’s creation. The property
committee has already discussed the native drought tolerant plants in the
parking lot, so maybe we should join together to make it happen.
United Methodist in Oxnard has put in a community garden and has a group
that will reach out to other groups to help them get organized. New news:
Camarillo now has it’s own community garden.
11. Rally
Day Table Prep – We need to think creatively, maybe use ladders to hang
pictures of projects, display Underwood’s boxes in a pyramid under the table,
etc… The next meeting will be prepping for Rally Day, so please bring any
pictures or props you have ready for use.
There is posterboard available in the copy
room (on top of paper shelf) to use.
12. Chair and Secretary Position Melissa
volunteered to write up minutes and get them to Marilyn. There will be no agenda or chair as the next
meeting is Rally Day prep ONLY!
13. Next
meeting will be held on Aug. 31st, 7:30 pm at Mt. Cross to prep
for Rally Day. The following meeting is
scheduled for Sept. 14th, at 7:30 pm at Mt. Cross.
14. Closed with a prayer by Melissa.
