How do we pursue our mission?
We do this by providing a range of opportunities for our youth to interact with and serve the wider congregation at Mount Cross as well as our community. Students participate in worship, Bible study and conversations involving current events and hot topics. We seek to provide a variety of activties throughout the year where our youth can engage in service, social, and adventure experiences that allow them to explore how their faith is lived out in the world.
When do we meet?
High school youth meet once a week on Sunday mornings from 9:30am to 10:30am in Pastor John’s office. There is a team of adult volunteers who rotate leading this time.
The first Sunday of the month the High School youth gather at Mount Cross at 9:30am then go down to the Las Posas Shopping Plaza to enjoy smoothies or Starbuck beverages while having a discussion time. The first Sunday of the month is also when our High School youth assist in the worship as ushers, readers, greeters and communion assistants.
One Saturday a month we meet at a coffeehouse at Peace Lutheran Church on 71 Loma street from 7:00-9:00pm. During coffeehouse we share the Hi’s and Lo’s of our week, play games, dig into Scripture with a video-driven curriculum and close with worship and prayer.
Once a month we also gather for a social activity, service project or youth retreat. For our schedule of activities for the school year of 2009-2010 please click here.
High School Summer Trip
Once a year during the summer months for a week or a week and a half, our High School youth go on a special summer trip. We have done a variety of trips over the years to places like the Navajo Indian Reservation, Western States youth gathering in San Jose and Seattle, Mount Cross Bible Camp in Santa Cruz, Rock ‘n Water Bible camp in the Sierra foothills, and National Youth Gatherings in Atlanta, San Antonio and New Orleans. During these trips we have had a variety of service and adventure experiences from building with Habitat for Humanity, teaching VBS to lower income children, doing beach clean-up, visiting our state capitol, and fixing up school playgrounds affected by Hurricane Katrina to backpacking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, rock climbing, and ocean kayaking.
We have found these trips great ways to deepen our relationship with God and each other as well as put our faith into action. We would love to have you join us on our next trip! For information on this year’s trip please click here.
