Review of
Events
· June 26th – National Sunglasses Day – went well, was fun and easy. Do again? Yes, but with a touch more heads up on the date advertising.
· June 27th and July 27th (Mon)- Softball Games 6 pm with Toppers dinner after – lead: Craig First night was entirely softball team, second night had more participation. It continues to bring attention to the fact that we have a team. Needs to be better advertised and we’d like to see the schedule for the team go back on the back of the bulletin/monthly calendar for church. Easy. Little prep and no cost. Do again? Yes.
· July 10th – National Blueberry Month – ask members to bring a treat to share – potluck hospitality. Went very well. Lots of members brought treats, lots stayed to visit on the patio. Exactly what we were hoping for. Do again? Yes.
· July 15th (Fri) ELCA World Hunger Potluck and “Into the Woods”– lead: Melissa – had 8 people at the potluck, but it was fun and easy and nice to visit. The show was great and the room was fairly full. Do again? Yes, if there is a show again.
· July 24th – National Vanilla Ice Cream Day – Floats – Anne spent $19 on soda, plus used from the fridge. She will get receipt to Melissa to make notes on what was purchased and used. Made 120, had 32 cups left. Need about 3 gallons of ice cream for that number of floats. Next year – buy only diet root beer and use other diet from fridge. Buy twice as much root beer and less others. Fruit punch and cherry coke were both good (if in fridge) Also, perhaps put out ice cream early to soften it. Needed more help with prescooping the ice cream. This is a great Sunday, but it really requires the whole group to participate. It takes more help than other ideas. Do again? Yes, if have people available.

Planning
Events for 2011
Aug 6th (Sat) Concert in the Park – 5:30 Classic Rock – lead: Scott and Nora - Like last summer, we will encourage member to put out their blankets and have an evening at the park. Scott wrote something for the newsletter. Meet Thursday 4:45 to put out blankets together.
Aug 7th (Sun) – National Watermelon Day – lead: Melissa. Committee will provide watermelon. Melissa: shopping. Nora: coffee. Craig: tables and slicing. Lori: cleanup. (Side note: Anne might need to teach the song next year!)

Members have been asked to bring a treat to share – potluck hospitality? Scott wrote a great item for the newsletter.

(Sun) –lead: Anne. Need to have a
presence on the patio. Anne will make
posters and staff table. Get anything to
her that you would like included, like signups for upcoming events, etc.. Hand out softball schedule on “business
cards”.
Aug 28th (Sun) Olympics/ Summer BBQ – lead: Josh A Minute to Win It? Melissa presented details Josh had given her before the meeting. Park is reserved ($134, Josh needs to turn in receipt) Trying for a “plastic-free” picnic off VBS theme – encourage people to bring their own plates, utensils, etc. from home but will have supplies on hand for people who forget. Coolers with spigots rather than water bottles, etc. No raffle. Sign-up board is ready to be hung on Sunday (asked that it be put out since he will miss church) Advertise to bring chairs for worship service and lunch. Progressive Dinner – Craig and Scott will discuss and have some plans/ideas in the next few months.
9. Other info: Need to grow our group. Please pray about it, then ask someone to join us. Perhaps we need a “uniform” for events – like leis to wear while we’re “working”. Show how much fun it is. Melissa will check into getting something for Rally Day.
We’d like to pick a regular date for our meeting. Perhaps 1st or 2nd Thursday of each month. Check your calendars for any conflicts.

Fellowship
Committee Report
Date of Meeting: Sunday, April 26, 2009
Those Present: Scott Fajnor, Anne
Valencia, Melissa Henry, Desta Goehner, Josh Graziani, Pastor John and Charlene
Sakioka (liaison)
The
committee discussed the upcoming events focusing on things that needed immediate
attention. Pastor John would like us to
include “Come and See” when and where possible at the events, i.e. “Come and
See what’s cooking at our Potluck”.
Scheduled events:
1. Potluck on May 18th @ 6pm. Melissa
Henry will be the chair for this event.
Melissa will contact Stephen Ministers to see if they can meet in Luther
Hall on this date and get information to Marilyn for advertising. Charlene will start a sign up chart on
Sunday, May 3rd on the patio.
Charlene to see about getting Megan and others to help supervise on the
playground.
2. Hockey Party on June 6th. This is an annual event with the chair/host
being Scott Fajnor. Scott will start next Sunday with sign ups on
the patio; he will need someone to help on May 31st. Scott will contact members as help is needed.
3. June 21st is the next
receiving of new members. It was
discussed at the previous meeting about a “New Member Dinner”. We thought if we could tie it to an event
already planned with a personal invitation (Melissa Henry) to the members.
We should try to keep it within a 2 week time frame before or after the
date.
4. Karen
Gramacki had offered to host a 4th of July gathering at
her home. It was heard that the
fireworks show was going to be moved to “Village at the Park”. Anne
will to contact John Frazier to see what the the
location will be.
5. Church Picnic on Aug. 30th. Josh
Graziani is the chair. He will have
a park location by the next meeting. Any
details and updates will be given at that time.
6. Stephanie
Galgano is still trying to work out a date for
the cookie exchange. Originally
Stephanie chose the Saturday before the “Hanging of the Greens”, but it was
thought that there may not be a strong turn out, so Stephanie will look into
another date.
Stephanie would like to put the cookbook on
hold at this time and revisit it next year when timing and budgets allow.
The Women’s group has been taken off
the table due to a lack of response as only one third of the group replied.
7. Dodger Night – Desta to send information to Melissa

schedule for this event.
8. Melissa
to talk with Marilyn Gardner about doing a progressive dinner in the Fall

9. National Neighbor Night – Charlene was
not able to find a specific date for this, but it was discussed that this is
something that we should do even if we just pick a date of our own.

Melissa Henry, Anne Valencia, Stephanie Galgano,
Charlene Sakioka (liaison)
Fellowship
will try to plan 3 events per quarter. One Family event, one Adult event and
one causal event.

was brought up that Council should suggest to the committee chairs that they
get current copies of the “Time & Talent” report from Marilyn. Members that have signed up for their
committee should be contacted and invited to meeting/events.

1. Potluck “Pot lunch” on May 3rd. Melissa
Henry will be the chair for this event.
A potluck lunch to be held immediately following 3rd service
at Mount Cross.
2. Hockey Party on June 6th. This is an annual event with the chair/host
being Scott Fajnor. Fellowship members will assist with any
needs/requests that Scott may have.
3. Church Picnic on Aug. 30th. Josh
Graziani is the chair and will be looking into other park sites. There was concern about some activities that
took place around the park last year.
Alternate location suggestions were:
Oak Grove Park, Mission Oaks and Pitts Ranch.
4. Pie Social on Nov. 25th. Anne
Valencia to chair this event. Anne has
been doing this for the past few years and has a handle on it. Committee to assist Anne as needed.
5. Cookie Exchange/White Elephant in Dec.

Galgano to chair this event. Stephanie is looking to set a date with

Barbara Zoo

Month
Progressive Dinner
Bowling
Craft Fair (Christmas
time)
Hobo Dinner (possibly
at the Annual Dinner in January)

get off the ground. It would be like the
Movie of the month hosted by Carol Paul.

meeting will take place on the patio at Mt. Cross on Sunday, April 26th
at 9:30am.

Fellowship Report
September 7, 2006
After a summer break, the Fellowship Committee is currently scheduling their
first fall meeting.
I recently spoke with Barbara D'Addario regarding the classical concert series
and how the Fellowship committee can support her at this time. She
reported that all is progressing as scheduled. She will be contacting
Gordon Bergh for his input (or referral) as to building the ramp to move the
piano to the altar. This will need to be done for the January concert.
She is currently organizing the reception for the October concert and may be
formally asking for help through the Grapevine if necessary. She has also
contacted the activities director at Villa Las Posas
to invite interested residents to the concerts at no charge as a community
outreach program.
Respectfully submitted,
Melinda Sheller
Fellowship liason
Date of meeting: May 21, 2006
Those in attendance: Melissa Henry, Patti Stouch, Melinda Sheller,
Charlene Sakioka.
Past events:
1. Make-it-Bake-it - What were the total funds
raised from the event?
2. Hockey Party - Big success. Thank you
to Scott Fajnor and committee.
3. Kendall Payne concert - those in attendance
very positive about the
event. Enough
money was not raised to cover entire cost.
Fellowship committee is
planning to reimburse Char through extra
money raised from the
Thrivent -sponsored Dodger game and Santa
Paula campout.
Discussion was held as to how to generate more
interest and support for
a similar event in the future.
4. Wine/Food Pairing at local bistro- cancelled
due to low response.
Discussion held as
to how to promote this more successfully in
future.
5. June 2-4 Church Campout was a big
success. About 130 people in
attendance. Thank
you to Kathy Bergh and committee.
Upcoming events:
1. June 20 - Lutheran Night at Dodger
Stadium. A group of 18 will be
attending.
Attendees will carpool and use the church van. As a
built-in fundraiser
through Thrivent, $81 was generated. This will
most likely go to cover
the cost of the Kendall Payne Concert
short-fall.
2. July 4 - BBQ and fireworks viewing at Mt.
Cross. Char Wall is in
charge. She has
advertised in Grapevine and started taking
sign-ups on patio.
3. Santa Barbara Zoo trip - July 22. This
will be a "meet there" event
with carpooling encouraged.
A picnic area will be reserved for our
group. Bring your
own picnic. More info to come.
4. Saturday movie and discussion - Carol Paul
has organized this. See
Grapevine and bulletin
for specific dates and times.
Planned events with no date set:
1. Progressive Dinner - most likely combine with
Annual Meeting in Jan.
2. Hollywood Bowl- late summer. Schedule
is out. Details to be ironed
out. More info to
come.
3. Camarillo Concerts in the Park - perhaps our
members can meet
there at scheduled
concerts if desired?
Next meeting: June 25 at 9:30 on the Church patio

Fellowship Committee Report from Sunday, March 26, 2006
Agenda Items for April 11, 2006:
1. Fellowship would like responsibility for confirming the
Make-it-Bake-it with the committee to rest with Service and Missions because
they feel this is a Service and Missions event rather than a Fellowship event.
2. Fellowship is willing to take on the Ladies/Young Ladies Luncheon but
not for this year. They are investigating changing the format somewhat to
increase interest.
3. Kathy Bergh has contacted Stephanie Edwards (former newscaster,
celebrity) about possibly speaking at the Ladies/Young Ladies luncheon (before
it was tabled for this year). She is a member of Shepard
of the Hills Lutheran Church in West Hills and does inspirational
speaking. They thought that maybe the entire church congregation would
like to hear her instead of just the women. Maybe she would be a good
speaker for the Stewardship Event or another event? I have info on her.
4. Fellowship is currently planning a progressive dinner. After
looking at the calendar, it was thought maybe it could be tied in with the
January Annual Meeting. The last stop could be the church for the
meeting. Could this be a possibility?
Events on the Calendar
1. April 29 - Hockey party at Scott Fajnor's house
- sign-ups currently being taken
2. May 6 - Kendall Payne Concert at Mount Cross - Char Wall is in charge
of this. Fellowship Committee will help as needed. Kendall will
join us for Sunday Services on May 7th.
3. May 22 - Wine/Food Pairing at Enoteca
Toscana - currently being advertised. Sign-ups will be taken on the patio
on April 9th and 23rd.
4. June 2-4 - Church Campout. Sign-ups have been taken and over 90
people are scheduled to go.
5. July 4 - BBQ and fireworks viewing at Mount Cross - Char Wall is in
charge. Details still forthcoming.
6. July 22 - Santa Barbara Zoo Family trip - a picnic spot will be
reserved but participants will be responsible for own transportation and picnic
lunch. Will be advertised soon.
Pending Events:
1. Progressive dinner - date still being discussed. Perhaps tied in
with the Annual Meeting as noted earlier in the agenda items.
2. Hollywood Bowl - date TBA depending on Bowl schedule
3. Concerts in the Park - dated TBA depending on release of schedule from
city.
4. Catalina Island boat camping trip - checking on dates in October
5. Family softball day - dates and details are being investigated
6. Long Beach Aquarium trip - may be linked to the Catalina Island trip -
details still being discussed.
7. Saturday movies and discussion - Carol Paul is running this. We
will check with her to see if she needs any assistance.
Other business:
1. Fellowship received $250 from Make-it-Bake-it funds
2. A reminder was given to members to check any Grapevine advertising
with Marilyn as soon as possible to determine if items can be left "as
is" to meet with Post Office non-profit regulations.
Next meeting: May 21st in PLC
Respectfully submitted,
Melinda Sheller, Fellowship Council Liaison
March 28th 2004
Kathy agreed
to continue as chair of fellowship.Ê
Caroline agreed
to act as secretary.
Kevin
Churchill has accepted position as our liason to
Church Council.
We welcome
Desta Goehner as a regular member of fellowship committee.
Car
rally is
still a go, per Pastor John.Ê Sometime in the spring
or summer, but no firm date at this time.
AnÊ ãEvening
at Holden Villageä was again discussed in brief,
but no date has been set.Ê Diana Hagen will work on
this.
Sunday
Morning Coffee
ö Char needs regular helpers and is bearing the responsibility of coffee set up
more often than not.Ê Her regular helpers include
Gail Baird, Mary Goodenough & Gayle Johnson.Ê
Caroline suggested Char set up the coffee pots on timers on Saturday,
to come on Sunday morning.Ê Char will ask Todd
Goehner to help her look into this.ÊÊ This may help
the job not look so daunting to new prospects. We discussed and felt that it
was fine for the coffee to stay in the kitchen at this time, again, as Char is
having a difficult time getting people to help with it on a regular basis.Ê
Caroline
suggested Char have regular helpers assigned, similar to the library system.Ê Each volunteer has a ãregular
Sundayä they are in charge of (every 1st
Sunday of the month, etc.)
Patio
Tables w/ Umbrellaâs were discussed as a way to
help people visit more and offer a place for them to sit and visit, as well as
use the library.Ê Caroline will research and
provide styles, colors & pricing for Kevin to take to church council.Ê Per
Kathy, both pastors have approved this idea in the past.
We
discussed asking the Cooks Club to make breakfast burritos on Sunday
mornings, as they have done in the past.Ê How
frequently can this be done?Ê
Quiet
Guitar playing or church library music between services could also help
bring people together.Ê Char and Caroline described a
recent Sunday where Pete Johnson played guitar to some of our Cont. Service
songs on the patio.Ê
Date
for next meeting not yet scheduled.
3/28/04
Minutes prepared by Caroline Hobbs
Important addition April 7, 2004
Learning
Committee minutes included notes pertaining to fellowship and are included below.Ê Please read, as they directly affect many of the
things we discussed at our March 28 meeting. (Caroline also takes notes at
learning, so this is convenient to both committees)
*Fellowship
notesÊ from Learning Meeting
*We talked
about the coffee service
being moved back outside.Ê Snack for Sunday school is
being disrupted by people clogging up kitchen, and many felt it was unwelcoming
to visitors, even with the signs telling that coffee was in the kitchen.Ê Caroline (member of fellowship committee) told
learning that at the most recent fellowship meeting, we discussed getting the
coffee pots set up on timers to avoid the ãcoffee tableä volunteer having to get to the church so early on
Sundays.
Ê
*Spirit CafŽ
ö Pastor Erik has scheduled Guy Irwin, May 3rd 7:00 to lead us in a
discussion of the book ãThe DaVinci
Codeä ö Coffee & dessert will be served.Ê We discussed who is helping put this on.Ê Scott has lead on refreshments.Ê
He will call Char Wall to discuss coffee & Caroline told him to have
Char Wall do follow-up on desserts (Caroline, Gayle & Sharon agreed to do a
dessert). The workshop/discussion is planned to be held in the Parish Life Center.Ê A promotion and sign-up was suggested so we could
determine if we need the sanctuary or the PLC & also how many refreshments
we would need.
*Last day of
Sunday School is June 13th.Ê Hot dog bbq
is planned.Ê We discussed a longer SS opening with
teacher appreciation.Ê We later discussed doing ãlibrary donationsä as teacher
gifts, as we have done in the past.Ê Caroline offered
to provide a selection of ãgiftä books & plackets.Ê Caroline also offered help from fellowship
with the bbq, but told Char that Kathy & Caroline
would be out of town the weekend of the 13th
*Gayle suggested we promote the Sunday
adult ed by having a ãtestimonyä
from someone who regularly attends.Ê We also
discussed the problem of attendance for people who attend 11:00 service and
have to ãwaitâ for 1 hour to start their service.Ê This
is where promoting a ãcoffee hourä
might be a great benefit.Ê Fellowship is currently
working on this by researching and asking council to consider purchasing tables
w/umbrellas and also having occasional breakfast burritoâs
provided by the cooks club.
