Evangelism
Report to the Church Council – June 2006
Evangelism and Lutheran are
rarely spoken in the same breath with the exception of our official title (some
would say misnomer), Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. I must admit I am,
like a lot of Lutherans, shy about my faith outside of the confines of those
who I am sure share my views.
However, Christ is calling to
so much more. So how do we attract others to Mount Cross? An evangelism committee could spend its time
making sure ads are placed in the newspaper and information about the church is
current. That would be easy enough and have some value but something tells me
there should be more to it.
One fundamental question we
should be asking ourselves is; are we presenting to those potential members
what Mount Cross can do for them or what we should all be doing for Christ?
People respond if challenged and in this idea I believe we can reach
people. Should we be presenting those
we which hope to evangelize with a church schedule or with a way to discover
the savior of their lives?
These are lofty thoughts I
know but why not think big, God is bigger than any of us can conceive. I would
like to start this way become more practical as we progress. I am currently
calling the list of those who showed interest in helping on an Evangelism
Committee to discuss these and other questions about out mission.
Yours in Christ,
Pete Johnson
Chair of Evangelism Committee
